毎回JBCのトーナメントには海外からも大物プレイヤーがやって来ますが、今回の目玉ラルフスーケットが突如来れなくなったという悲しいニュースを当日聞きました。
そうした事もあって、観戦料が値下げされたかどうかは分かりませんが、主催としても理由を告げる方が来場者にきちんと話せるという事からか、キャンセルする旨を伝えるFAXが来場者全員に配られました。実際のFAXと訳文（これが結構自動翻訳風で笑えるのだが）が一枚ずつ渡されたのです。
もしかしたらどっかタイプミスしているかもしれませんが、転写しておきますのでごらんくださいませ。

I herewith like to apologize for not participating in the IBC Japan Cup 2003 in Tokyo.I made a big mistake by announcing myself for two events at the same time.Unfortunately I had to cancel one event and it happend to be the one in Tokyo.I really like being and playing in your country and I appreciate your way of treating me as a guest.I know that many of you expected to see me at this tournament and even paid a lot of money for it,but I chose to play a tournament in the Philippines for personal reason.I still hope that you will forgive me for my inobservance and don't spit at me next time I visit your country to play.I have made a lot of friends in Japan within the last 15 years and I don't want to ruin this with my decision.Sorry for not showing up this time and I promise it won't happen again.

しかし、海外の選手でキャンセル、（しかも何の理由もなく）する人って結構いるし、スーケットのように詫び状まで送ってくるプレイヤーの方が珍しいなぁと（主催が送れと要請したのでなければ）思いました。

まぁスーケットも商売だし、たとえ賞金が同じでもフィリピンでのメディア露出とかそうしたプラスαがある試合を選ぶのは当然だと思うし、そうした魅力に負けないトーナメントを作っていかなければ、海外選手のエントリーも減るのではないかなぁと思います。
だって、日本選手も俄然強くなったため、日本の試合にお金をひろいに来るという感覚だけでは出場できないですもんね。
